Bibliography / Profile

I studied Industrial Design, then sculpture at Central-St. Martins then became a Lecturer in Foundation Studies at the Universioy of Aston in Birmingham. Several One-Man & Group Sculpture Exhibitions. A specialism in Kinetic Art led to 15years full-time works in Rock Music as a Stage Lighting Designer, which evolved into 20years work in the Film Industry as a Sculptor / Modelmaker. This is my current situation along with specialist automobile pattern-making, Theme Park creatures, museum exhibits and numerous sculpture & modelmaking projects.

I started my career as a sculptor/model-maker in films & TV in the 1970's on several Dr Who episodes, Spike Milligams Q8 Series, progressing to the most famous feature film i've ever worked on: "Star Wars" for which I helped to make 9(nine) of the R2D2 characters.

My first job as a designer came in 1978-9 on the set of 'Xtro', a feature film in the horror genre. I sculpted and produced the principle character with 3 different transformations and all the prosthetic models and props.

In 1981, I spent the next 2 years in Munich working on the blockbuster film, 'Neverending Story' as a prosthetics creature sculptor. This entailed sculpting the 'Luck Dragon', Giant Bat, Racing Snail and the Giant Rockbiter characters. After the film was completed I was then tasked with creating the creatures in miniature for the toys to coincide with the release of the film.

During the mid 80's I continued to create miniature sculpture models for the tourist industry, these included models of birds, animals and historic buidings. I also sculpted 'Monkey Trophies' for a popular German TV Game-Show. Later; I was involved in several feature films inc. 'The Mission', 'Gunbus', 'Cold Lazurus', 'The Borrowers', 'Lost in Space' and 'Judge Dredd'.

In the later part of the 80's and early 90's I continued to work on some of the popular British Television productions such as 'Spitting Image', 3 productions for Oxford Scientific Films, 3 David Attenborough nature series and many TV adverts including the introduction of 'Samsung' in which I designed & created a superb chrome robot suit. I was designer as well as actually making full sized vehicles & motorised seats for Dennis Potter's 'Cold Lazurus'.

During the mid to late 1990's I worked with Henson's Creature Shop, known for their popular TV productions of 'The Muppet Show' and 'Seseme Street'. I was called back to help on the sequals 'Neverending Story III' and 'Flintsones II'. I also created a life sized replica, prosthetic head of the singer Lou Reed, for a Pop Promo followed by the 'Return of the Mummy' feature film.

The Irish Environmental Agency contracted me in the latter half of the 90's to develop a 'Theme Park' consisting of giant insects, that also doubled up as disposal containers for recycling of waste. I also created an 'animated Dragon' for an Energy Conservation scheme. Laterly an Antiguan Sugar Cane Plantation tableux on permanent show at the Liverpool Maritime Museum for the Abolition of Slavery Exhibition in 2006.
